200 x 200 rugs for every room: Free delivery

A 200 x 200 rug brings structure to smaller living areas and neatly defined spaces. Its square proportions create a sense of balance and order, working especially well beneath 4-seater round tables or compact, 2-seater sofas to add structure while leaving enough floor visible around it. Choosing a 200 x 200 rug

A 200 x 200 cm rug is a popular choice because it fits where bigger rugs don’t. At 4 m², it’s large enough to define a seating group, a small dining area or a reading corner, yet small enough to leave a border of floor visible in a compact room. It’s also easy to place: the square shape suits square rooms and open-plan zones, and you can turn it 90° without changing the look, so wear spreads evenly.

The size works hard across the home. Use it under a coffee table and a two-seater sofa in a living room, under a small round dining table, at the foot of a double bed, or in a home office, kids’ room or square landing. Choose between hard-wearing wool, easy-clean flatweave, soft shaggy and long-lasting hand-knotted rugs to match one to how the space is used.

Frequently asked questions

A 200 x 200 cm rug suits small to medium rooms, roughly up to 3 x 3 m for a living room or a small dining area. It also works as an accent in a larger room, such as a reading corner, a home office or a landing. In a larger living room, a 200 x 300 cm rug usually looks better proportioned.

A 200 x 200 rug works for a small round table seating four, up to about 100 cm across. That leaves roughly 50 cm of rug on each side, a little under the usual 60–70 cm guideline, so chairs may drift off the edge when pulled out. For a table wider than 100 cm, go up to a 250 x 250 rug.

Position it so the front legs of a two-seater sofa and any armchairs rest on the rug, with the coffee table in the middle. This ties the group together without the rug filling the whole room. Leave 20–30 cm of bare floor between the rug and the walls. For a larger three-seater sofa, check that the rug is still wide enough to sit under the front legs.

Wool is the most dependable choice, as it’s durable, warm and naturally stain-resistant. Choose flatweave or low pile if the rug will sit under chairs or in a busy area, and a high pile or shaggy design if you want something soft in a bedroom.
