Afghan FineHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red80 x 127 cm

Afghan Akhche rugs have their origins in the northern regions of Afghanistan, where they have been woven for generations by traditional tribal communities. These pieces represent a vital part of the region's cultural identity, carrying designs that have been passed down through families.

The term Akhche refers to a specific style of weaving known for its robust construction and characteristic deep red colour palettes. Woven using wool, these rugs are designed to be durable and practical, reflecting the nomadic and semi-nomadic lifestyles of their original creators.

The visual language of this tradition is defined by repeating geometric shapes, most notably the gul or octagonal medallion. These central motifs are framed by multiple borders filled with smaller geometric patterns, creating a sense of order and harmony that is highly valued in traditional rug design.

Owning an Afghan Akhche rug is a way to connect with a long-standing craft tradition. These rugs are appreciated by collectors and homeowners alike for their honest construction, rich natural tones, and the enduring cultural heritage they bring into a modern home.

Every detail of this rug is shaped by hand, using traditional hand-knotting techniques that have been preserved for generations. The process demands time and patience, resulting in a durable structure where every knot is placed individually by a skilled artisan.

With a weight of 3.1 kg for its 127 x 80 cm size, the rug features a dense and substantial construction. This weight indicates a generous use of wool in the pile, which helps the rug lie flat on your floor and maintain its shape over years of use.
