Afghan Fine

This one-of-a-kind hand-knotted Afghan Fine runner features a distinctive light blue field and traditional geometric medallions, bringing authentic character to your home.

This one-of-a-kind runner is hand-knotted in Afghanistan, carrying the rich weaving traditions of the region. Crafted with wool, the pile offers a soft and warm feel underfoot, making it a welcoming addition to any long space or hallway.

With a thickness of 10 mm, the runner provides a comfortable layer of cushioning while remaining low-profile enough to sit comfortably in busy areas. The natural properties of the wool ensure the pile is resilient, recovering well from foot traffic and maintaining its structure over time.

The design features a light blue central field framed by dark red borders, creating a beautiful contrast that highlights the six geometric medallions running down the centre. Because this is a unique piece, you are acquiring a singular work of textile art that cannot be replicated.

Design

The runner showcases a vertical row of six geometric medallions set against a light blue field, framed by dark red borders with traditional motifs.

Afghan Akhche rugs have their roots in the northern regions of Afghanistan, where Turkmen weavers have practiced their craft for centuries. These pieces are celebrated for their geometric clarity and deep connection to nomadic heritage.

The term Akhche refers to both the region of origin and the specific style of weaving, known for its robust construction and traditional design language. Weavers use local wool, which is spun and dyed to create the rich, contrasting tones characteristic of the style.

The central medallions, or guls, are classic tribal symbols that historically served as family crests or regional identifiers. While deep red is the most traditional background colour, contemporary variations like this light blue field offer a modern interpretation of the classic design.

Acquiring an Afghan runner is a way to connect with a living craft tradition. These pieces are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their cultural depth, honest construction, and the warmth they bring to modern living spaces.

Every detail of this runner has been created by hand using traditional knotting techniques passed down through generations of Afghan weavers. The process requires patience and precision, with each knot individually tied to the cotton warp to build the pattern.

Weighing 7.1 kg and measuring 281 x 82 cm, the substantial weight of the runner speaks to the density of its construction. This solid build helps the piece lie flat on your floor, preventing bunching and ensuring it stays securely in place during daily use.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
