Afghan FineHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red83 x 122 cm

Afghan Akhche rugs belong to a celebrated weaving tradition rooted in northern Afghanistan, where local weavers have produced these distinctive textiles for centuries. Historically crafted by nomadic and village communities, these rugs are famous for their robust construction and deep, warm colour palettes.

The design of this rug is defined by the classic elephant-foot or gul motif, a repeating octagonal medallion that serves as a signature of Afghan weaving. These geometric emblems are more than simple patterns; they historically functioned as tribal crests, representing the identity and heritage of the weavers who created them.

Traditionally woven using rich madder red dyes contrasted with deep indigo blues and blacks, these rugs are designed to bring warmth to nomadic dwellings. The structured borders enclosing the central field protect the inner design and represent the order and harmony of traditional tribal life.

Owning an Afghan Fine rug means bringing a piece of living history into your home. Highly valued by collectors and homemakers alike, these rugs are cherished for their honest craftsmanship, cultural depth, and ability to blend seamlessly into both traditional and contemporary interiors.

This remarkable rug was hand-knotted in Afghanistan using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Every single knot has been tied by hand, a process that requires immense patience, precision, and time, making each finished piece a testament to human skill.

With a total weight of 3.1 kg for its compact 122 x 83 cm size, the rug has a substantial and dense structure. This weight reflects the generous amount of high-quality wool packed into the pile, ensuring the rug lies flat on the floor and resists wear from daily use.

The hand-knotted construction ensures that the pile is firmly anchored, creating a highly durable textile that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match. This dedication to craft is what gives the rug its unique character and lasting value.
