Antique Kerman - A Grand Piece Worth Keeping

Discover this one-of-a-kind antique Kerman rug, bringing genuine Persian heritage and exceptional tactile warmth to your home.

Steeped in history, this antique rug brings a profound sense of heritage and calm to any room it occupies. Walking across its surface reveals a deep, cushioning pile that feels remarkably soft underfoot while naturally absorbing sound to create a quieter, more peaceful atmosphere in your living space.

The tactile experience is defined by 100% Wool fibres that offer natural warmth during cooler months while remaining breathable year-round. This generous 11 mm pile height creates a substantial feel that grounds your furniture and invites you to sit comfortably on the floor.

Because this is a genuinely unique piece, no other home will ever have this exact arrangement of colours and motifs. Owning it means acquiring a singular work of textile art that cannot be replicated or reordered once it finds its permanent home.

The rich colour palette of beige and dark-red tones adds a warm and grounded focal point to your interior. Over the years, this rug has developed a soft patina that only genuine age can provide, making it a wonderful anchor for a considered room design.

Kerman rugs originate from the historic desert city of Kerman in Persia, a legendary hub of textile production dating back centuries. Situated along historic trade routes, Kerman developed a distinct school of weaving known for technical mastery and sophisticated design compositions that gained appreciation among global collectors.

The tradition relies on skilled hand-knotting methods passed down through generations of families. Artisans use fine wool harvested from local flocks, spinning the fibres carefully to ensure strength and a soft hand before setting them onto a sturdy foundation.

Visually, Kerman rugs are celebrated for elaborate floral fields, often featuring central medallions surrounded by intricate botanical scrolls and harmonious borders. The tradition favours a sophisticated interplay of tones, where traditional motifs are arranged with remarkable balance and artistic depth.

Collecting an antique Kerman rug means preserving a tangible piece of textile history. The immense time and skill required to create a carpet of this scale ensure that it remains a valued heirloom, carrying the cultural weight and artistic spirit of its makers into the future.

This rug is entirely handmade through traditional hand-knotted techniques that require extraordinary patience and precision from skilled artisans. Each knot is tied by hand over the course of many months, resulting in a dense and stable foundation that secures every strand of 100% Wool.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the total construction comprises roughly 3,970,000 individual knots across its 537 x 296 cm dimensions. This exceptionally high knot count allows for intricate pattern details and sharp outlines while ensuring the pile remains dense and resistant to crushing over decades of daily use, which is a key indicator of exceptional durability and superior quality.

Weighing 47.7 kg, the substantial weight reflects the sheer density of material and labour invested in its creation. This heavy construction ensures the rug lies flat and secure on your floor without slipping, representing a level of traditional craftsmanship that modern machines simply cannot match.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
