The Hamadan region in the Middle East is renowned for its long-standing tradition of rug weaving. Asadabad, a town within this area, has developed a distinct identity in its output, often producing runners and smaller rugs that reflect the daily lives and artistic preferences of the local weaving communities.

These rugs are typically defined by their sturdy construction. The use of traditional hand-knotting techniques ensures a dense pile, which is a hallmark of the regional style. This method of construction is not just about aesthetics; it is a practical choice that has allowed these rugs to serve as reliable, long-lasting floor coverings in Middle Eastern homes for generations.

Visually, these runners often feature geometric medallions and repeating motifs. The borders are typically formal and well-defined, framing the field with precision. The colour palettes are deeply rooted in local natural dyes, favouring warm, earthy tones that bring a sense of grounded comfort to any environment.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage. Because each rug is a product of individual interpretation and skill, they are highly valued by collectors who appreciate the nuances that differentiate one hand-knotted piece from another. It is a way to bring authentic craft and historical significance into a modern home.

This runner is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires immense skill and patience. Each individual knot is placed by hand, creating a robust and dense pile that provides superior longevity compared to machine-made alternatives.

With a total area of approximately 2.23 m2 and a significant weight of 8.9 kg, this rug demonstrates a high density of materials. This substantial weight is a direct result of the intensive manual labour involved, ensuring that the finished piece is both heavy and durable.

The precision required to execute these intricate, traditional patterns by hand is a testament to the artisan's expertise. By choosing this piece, you are supporting a craft tradition that prioritises quality and human effort over mass-production.
