BaluchHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown105 x 200 cm

Beluch rugs take their name from the Baluchi people, a nomadic group whose traditional territories span across parts of the Middle East. For centuries, these rugs have been woven by tribal artisans, often during their seasonal migrations, using local materials and ancient techniques passed down through generations.

The craftsmanship behind these rugs is defined by their foundation and pile. By using wool for the pile, the weavers achieve a soft, durable surface that holds dye exceptionally well. The construction is focused on creating a rug that is both portable for nomadic life and sturdy enough to endure the harsh conditions of the desert, resulting in a product of incredible longevity.

Visually, Beluch rugs are characterised by their deep, earthy colour palettes and intricate geometric patterns. They often feature repeating motifs such as diamonds or stylised floral elements, framed by decorative borders. These designs are not merely decorative but often carry symbolic meanings, representing the history and tribal identity of the weavers who created them.

Owning a Beluch rug is an opportunity to preserve a piece of living history. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the human story behind every knot. They represent a connection to a rich, traditional way of life and a commitment to maintaining the artisanal skills that have defined this region's contribution to global textile history for centuries.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that requires immense skill and patience from the artisan. By tying each individual knot by hand, the weaver ensures a level of structural integrity and pattern precision that simply cannot be matched by machine-made alternatives.

With a weight of 5.7 kg across its surface, this rug demonstrates a significant investment of material and time. This substantial construction is a direct result of the dense, hand-knotted technique, which provides the durability and weight needed for a long-lasting, high-quality home accessory.

The process of creating a rug of this size and complexity takes many weeks of consistent, focused effort. Every knot is a deliberate act of craft, contributing to the overall durability and the crispness of the geometric design, ensuring that the finished piece is as robust as it is visually arresting.
