Berber Colourful - Crafted to Last a Lifetime

A truly one-of-a-kind handmade wool rug from Afghanistan, featuring a striking diamond pattern and a cosy 10 mm pile.

Bring warmth and character to your home with this unique handmade wool rug from Afghanistan, measuring 145 x 82 cm. The 10 mm pile creates a wonderfully soft, tactile surface underfoot while offering practical sound absorption for living rooms or bedrooms.

Crafted entirely from natural wool, this piece provides natural insulation to keep your living space feeling comfortable and inviting throughout the year.

Every detail in this rug reflects genuine craftsmanship, featuring a knot density of 40000 knots per m2. This high density ensures a robust, long-lasting pile that retains its intricate pattern definition even with regular use.

Because this is a completely one-of-a-kind creation, no other home will have this exact rug. The specific combination of tones and patterns means you are welcoming a truly individual piece of textile art into your space.

Berber rugs trace their origins back to the indigenous tribal weavers of North Africa and Central Asia, whose traditional hand-knotting techniques have evolved over centuries. Afghan weavers adapted these methods, combining local wool resources with ancestral weaving wisdom to create durable floor coverings that tell stories of their makers and communities.

The craft relies on time-honoured traditions where raw wool is carefully prepared, spun, and dyed before being tied knot by knot onto a sturdy loom. This heritage of hand-knotting ensures that every rug serves not only as a functional home accessory but also as a preservation of artisanal skills passed down across generations.

Signature design elements often include geometric motifs, diamond shapes, and symbolic tribal markers arranged in striking compositions. In this particular piece, the repeating diamond patterns are framed by earthy background tones, showcasing a thoughtful balance of traditional symmetry and creative expression.

Owning a traditional handmade rug connects your living space to a rich lineage of global craftsmanship and cultural heritage. These pieces are valued by collectors and home lovers alike for their authenticity, enduring materials, and the human dedication required to bring each unique design to life.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who spend weeks tying each knot by hand to build a resilient and lasting foundation. The process requires immense patience, steady hands, and deep traditional knowledge passed down through generations.

With a density of 40000 knots per m2 and a total weight of 4.8 kg across the 145 x 82 cm frame, a significant amount of human effort and high-grade wool goes into every square centimetre. This dense knotting secures the wool firmly in place, resulting in a robust structure that resists daily wear.

The traditional hand-knotting technique allows for sharp pattern clarity and a luxurious pile depth that machine-made alternatives simply cannot replicate. Each knot represents hours of dedicated work, ensuring a finished rug of exceptional quality and durability.

They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
