Berber Colourful - A Vibrant Expression of Craft for Your Home

Bring warmth and character to your floor with this one-of-a-kind handmade Berber Colourful rug from Afghanistan, crafted entirely from soft wool.

This genuine Berber Colourful rug brings a lively sense of warmth and character to your living space. Measuring 151 x 86 cm, it features a comfortable 10 mm pile that provides a wonderfully soft and cosy feel underfoot whilst offering natural sound absorption for a calmer home environment.

Crafted from 100% wool, this rug delivers exceptional tactile comfort and enduring quality. Wool naturally regulates indoor climate and provides a snug, inviting surface that is a pleasure to walk on every day.

With a knot density of 40000 knots per m2, the construction offers a wonderfully dense pile and clear definition of its striking patterns. This higher knot count ensures the wool fibres stand resiliently, giving you a durable floor covering that maintains its inviting texture and beauty over years of daily use.

As a truly one-of-a-kind piece originating from Afghanistan, this rug exists nowhere else in the world. No two pieces are ever identical, meaning you are welcoming an authentic work of artistic heritage into your home that can never be replicated.

Berber and tribal rug traditions have deep roots across regions of the Middle East and Central Asia, where nomadic and village weavers passed down intricate geometric designs through generations. While traditional Berber rugs often originated in North Africa, the style has inspired vibrant weaving communities across Asia, combining local storytelling with bold use of colour and symbol.

Hand-knotted construction is an ancient craft where individual strands of wool are tied by hand onto the vertical warp threads. This meticulous technique allows artisans to create deeply textured piles that trap warmth and resist wear far better than any machine-made alternative.

The visual language of this rug is defined by striking diamond medallions and geometric borders filled with rich tonal shifts. The interplay of multicolour tones showcases the natural affinity wool has for absorbing rich dyes, creating a dynamic surface that changes subtly with the light in your room.

Owning a hand-knotted wool rug from this tradition means connecting with centuries of human craftsmanship. It is a tangible piece of cultural heritage that brings both visual depth and enduring quality into modern living spaces.

This rug is entirely handmade using traditional hand-knotted techniques by skilled artisans in Afghanistan. Bringing this piece to life requires months of dedicated human labour, where every single knot is tied by hand with meticulous care.

The 40000 knots per m2 density means a total of approximately 5.2 million individual knots were carefully placed by hand. Weighing 5.2 kg, the dense construction and substantial wool content reflect the immense time and precision invested in its creation, ensuring a robust and long-lasting foundation for your home.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
