The Berber style, while famously associated with the nomadic tribes of North Africa, has inspired weaving traditions across the globe, including the skilled artisans of Afghanistan. These rugs are celebrated for their ability to blend ancient cultural narratives with an aesthetic that feels fresh and relevant in today's homes.

The term 'hand-knotted' refers to the traditional method of securing the pile to the foundation warp and weft threads. This technique is essential for quality, as it creates a dense, durable pile that is naturally resistant to wear and tear. Each knot is a testament to the artisan's patience and technical expertise.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their symbolic geometric language. The diamond motif, often seen in this style, is a classic element that represents protection and fertility in many weaving cultures. The use of vibrant, multi-coloured accents against a neutral field creates a balanced contrast that draws the eye and anchors a room.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage and human skill. By choosing a hand-knotted piece, you are supporting the continuation of a craft that has been passed down through generations, ensuring that the artistry and soul of these traditions remain vibrant for years to come.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate weeks of focused effort to bring each design to life. The process begins with the careful preparation of the foundation, upon which every single knot is tied by hand to build the pile, layer by layer.

With a weight of 22.1 kg, this rug demonstrates a dense and robust construction that speaks to the significant volume of wool used. This substantial weight is a clear indicator of the quality and effort invested in its creation, ensuring that the rug maintains its shape and beauty over time.

The precision required for such a large-scale project is immense, as the weaver must maintain consistent tension and knotting throughout the entire 298 x 185 cm surface. This commitment to traditional techniques ensures a long-lasting, durable finish that simply cannot be replicated by mechanical production.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
