Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark grey139 x 200 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, historically a major trading hub where nomadic and settled weaving traditions met. Over generations, the distinct design style migrated and flourished in other regions, and today some of the finest examples are meticulously crafted in Pakistan.

The designation 2ply refers to the construction method where the pile is woven using two strands of wool twisted together before knotting. This technique produces a significantly denser, more lustrous, and longer-lasting pile compared to single-ply construction, ensuring the surface maintains its rich appearance over decades.

The visual language of this tradition is defined by repeating gul motifs, which are octagonal or elephant-foot shaped medallions arranged in precise rows across the field. Enclosed by a formal, multi-layered border, these geometric elements reflect a deeply rooted cultural heritage focused on symmetry and order.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this esteemed tradition represents a connection to centuries of textile artistry and human skill. It is a piece that carries real cultural weight, offering lasting quality and heritage for those who appreciate authentic craftsmanship in their homes.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of meticulous work to bring the traditional pattern to life. With approximately 44,800 individual knots tied by hand across its total surface, the creation process demands extraordinary precision, patience, and craft expertise.

Weighing 7 kg, the substantial construction reflects the generous amount of natural wool invested into the dense pile and sturdy foundation. This high material weight combined with the fine knot density ensures a robust, enduring quality that only traditional hand-knotting can achieve.
