Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road trading hub of Bukhara in Central Asia, where nomadic weavers first developed the distinctive repeating patterns. Over generations, the tradition migrated southward, and today some of the finest examples are crafted by skilled artisans in Pakistan.

The designation 2ply refers to the construction of the pile, where two individual strands of wool are twisted together before knotting. This technique produces a denser, heavier, and more lustrous pile compared to single-ply variations, adding both longevity and a rich sheen to the wool.

Traditional Bokhara designs are famous for their repeating gul motifs, which are octagonal or elephant-foot medallions arranged in neat rows across the field. While traditional rugs in this category often feature red backgrounds, this unique variation in dark blue offers a fresh take on a classic visual language.

Collecting a hand-knotted piece from this tradition means preserving centuries of weaving heritage. Owning such a rug represents an appreciation for genuine craft skill, cultural continuity, and the dedication required to produce lasting beauty for the home.

Skilled artisans invested considerable time and human effort to create this hand-knotted masterpiece. Weaving a rug of this quality requires immense precision, with every single knot tied carefully by hand to secure the structure.

Based on the dimensions of 95 x 63 cm and a knot density of 250,000 knots per m2, the creation of this rug involved tying approximately 1,496,250 individual knots. This extensive manual labour translates to months of dedicated work by master weavers.

The combination of the 1.5 kg weight and fine knotting results in a robust, tightly packed foundation. This traditional hand-knotted method guarantees exceptional durability and ensures the rug maintains its shape and beauty over generations of use.
