Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Dark grey / Black77 x 120 cm

Bokhara rugs trace their design roots to the ancient Silk Road trading hub of Bukhara in Central Asia, where nomadic and village weavers developed distinctive repeating patterns. Over generations, the tradition migrated southward, and today some of the finest examples are meticulously crafted by skilled artisans in Pakistan.

The 2ply designation in the construction refers to the use of two distinct wool strands twisted together before knotting. This technique yields a denser, heavier, and more lustrous pile compared to single-ply variations, adding both visual depth and everyday resilience.

The visual signature of this tradition is the iconic repeating gul motif, an octagonal or elephant-foot medallion arranged in orderly rows across the field, framed by structured geometric borders. This particular piece showcases those classic motifs set against a serene blue field, offering a fresh take on a traditional aesthetic.

Collecting a Bokhara rug means welcoming a rich heritage of Middle Eastern craftsmanship into your home. These pieces are valued for their enduring artistic language and the exceptional skill required to translate ancient motifs into lasting floor art.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Pakistan, representing a remarkable investment of time and human dedication. Weavers spend months meticulously tying individual strands by hand to build a resilient and precise structure.

With a knot density of 250,000 knots per m2, a total of approximately 2,310,000 individual knots are placed across the 120 x 77 cm surface. This high knot count requires immense patience and steady precision, resulting in a dense pile and exceptional structural integrity.

Weighing 2.3 kg, the substantial construction reflects the generous amount of natural material and focused labor invested into every square centimetre, ensuring a durable floor covering that will endure for generations.
