Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark yellow104 x 148 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road trading hub of Bukhara in Central Asia, where nomadic and village weavers first developed the distinctive visual language. Over generations, the craft migrated and found a thriving home in Pakistan, where skilled artisans continue to preserve and refine these classic weaving traditions.

This specific piece features a 3ply construction, meaning the pile is woven using three distinct strands of wool twisted together. This multi-strand method yields a noticeably denser, heavier, and more lustrous pile compared to standard single-ply alternatives, ensuring better resilience against everyday wear.

The design is characterised by repeating geometric octagonal medallions known as gul motifs, arranged in neat rows across a dark black field and framed by structured borders. This traditional layout offers a balanced, grounded look that brings order and calm to a room.

Collecting a Pakistani Bokhara means investing in a living textile tradition that honours centuries of human skill. Owning such a piece connects your living space to a rich heritage of craftsmanship and enduring quality.

Crafted entirely by hand through traditional knotting techniques, this rug represents months of dedicated human effort and skilled labour. Artisans individually tie each knot by hand to secure the 100% wool pile into the foundational structure.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2 applied across a 148 x 104 cm surface, the total knot count reaches approximately 384,800 individual knots. Achieving this level of precision requires immense patience and specialised expertise, resulting in the sharp geometric definition and robust pile density you can see and feel.

Weighing 4.8 kg, the substantial construction reflects the heavy investment of material and time required to build a lasting piece of floor art.
