Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Dark red / BlackRunner71 x 202 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, which historically served as a major trading hub for nomadic and village weavers. Over generations, the tradition migrated southward, and today some of the finest examples of these classic designs are carefully crafted in Pakistan.

This runner is woven in a 3ply construction, meaning the pile is built using three strands of wool twisted together. This specialized technique creates a particularly dense, lustrous, and hard-wearing surface that stands up well to daily walking while maintaining its soft feel.

The visual language of this tradition is defined by repeating gul motifs, which are octagonal medallions arranged in orderly rows across the rich red field. These geometric elements are framed by detailed borders that draw inspiration from centuries-old Central Asian textile heritage.

Collecting rugs from this tradition allows you to bring a piece of living cultural heritage into your home. Owning a hand-knotted runner of this caliber represents a deep appreciation for enduring craftsmanship and traditional skills passed down through generations of makers.

Skilled artisans have crafted this runner entirely by hand using traditional knotting techniques, dedicating countless hours to tie each of the 250,000 knots per m2 individually.

This intensive hand-knotting process requires immense precision and patience, resulting in a dense pile and remarkably sharp pattern details that only human hands can achieve.

The substantial weight of 4.4 kg across the 202 x 71 cm dimensions reflects the generous amount of natural wool and human effort invested into creating a durable floor covering of this scale.
