China 90 LineHand KnottedRug

Orange / Brown68 x 122 cm

Chinese rug weaving traditions date back centuries, with a rich history that has evolved significantly over time. While early designs were often reserved for imperial courts and religious institutions, the craft blossomed into a wider tradition characterised by distinct artistic sensibilities and a deep appreciation for nature-inspired motifs.

The '90 Line' designation refers to a specific traditional measurement system used to classify the density of the knots. This technical standard ensures a consistent and reliable quality, where the density of the Wool pile is carefully balanced to provide both the desired softness and the necessary structural integrity for a long-lasting floor covering.

Visually, these rugs are celebrated for their balanced compositions and harmonious use of colour. Floral patterns are a hallmark of this tradition, often featuring central medallions or flowing vine motifs that draw inspiration from classical Chinese art. The use of soft, muted tones is a deliberate choice to ensure the rug complements rather than overwhelms the surrounding decor.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage and skilled artistry. These pieces are highly valued by collectors and enthusiasts alike for their ability to blend functional durability with artistic expression. By acquiring this rug, you are preserving a legacy of craft that continues to be a hallmark of quality in the global textile world.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a traditional process where each individual knot is placed by hand to ensure a dense, high-quality pile. This labour-intensive technique requires significant skill and patience, resulting in a product that is far more durable and refined than machine-made alternatives.

The 4.1 kg weight of this 122 x 68 cm piece is a testament to the generous use of material and the density of its construction. This substantial weight ensures the rug lies flat and provides a solid, premium feel that is immediately noticeable when you walk across it.

Creating a rug of this quality takes a considerable amount of time, reflecting the dedication of the artisans involved. Every detail, from the precise placement of the floral patterns to the finished edges, is the result of focused human effort, ensuring that you receive a piece built to last for generations.
