Gabbeh Rustic - A Warm Addition to Your Home

This one-of-a-kind Gabbeh rug brings a natural, grounded aesthetic to your living space. Hand-knotted from high-quality wool, it offers a soft, tactile experience that adds warmth and comfort to any room.

This genuine Gabbeh rug is a unique work of art, with no two pieces ever being exactly alike. By choosing this rug, you are bringing a singular item into your home that carries its own distinct character, ensuring that your interior decor remains as individual as your personal style.

Crafted from premium wool, this rug provides a soft and inviting surface underfoot. Its substantial 17 mm pile height contributes to a sense of comfort and warmth, making it an excellent choice for creating a cosy atmosphere in living areas or bedrooms where a touch of texture is desired.

The rug is deeply rooted in the traditions of the Middle East, reflecting a long history of nomadic craftsmanship and design. Its aesthetic is defined by a simple, honest approach to pattern and form, which balances perfectly with modern or more traditional interior styles alike.

Owning such a piece means investing in a durable and functional floor covering that will age gracefully over time. Its dense construction and natural materials ensure it remains a reliable and comforting presence in your home, providing both visual interest and practical warmth for years to come.

Gabbeh rugs originate from the nomadic tribes of the Middle East, where they were traditionally crafted for personal use rather than for commercial sale. These rugs were designed to provide warmth and comfort within the harsh conditions of desert life, often serving as bedding or floor coverings in tents.

The term Gabbeh itself refers to a style that is intentionally raw and unrefined, characterised by a thicker, longer pile compared to other regional rug types. This construction technique prioritises utility and softness, creating a piece that feels deeply connected to its functional roots and the natural environment.

Visually, these rugs are known for their minimalist approach, often featuring bold, geometric motifs or abstract arrangements that reflect the weaver's personal expression or the landscapes of their home region. While they may appear simple, their design language is sophisticated and celebrates the beauty of negative space and rich, natural colour palettes.

Today, these rugs are highly sought after by collectors for their authenticity and the human story behind each knot. Owning a Gabbeh is not just about floor decor, but about preserving a piece of cultural heritage that honours the skill of generations of weavers who transformed wool into enduring objects of beauty.

This rug is created through a traditional hand-knotted process that requires significant time and focus from skilled artisans. By individually tying each knot by hand, the weavers ensure a level of structural integrity and pile density that machines simply cannot replicate.

With a total weight of 2.9 kg across its 120 x 60 cm frame, this rug demonstrates the substantial amount of wool used in its construction. This weight is a direct indicator of the quality and effort invested in the piece, resulting in a durable and thick pile that is built to withstand daily use while maintaining its shape and texture.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
