The Hamadan region in the Middle East has long been a major centre for rug production, serving as a hub where various weaving styles from surrounding villages converge. These rugs are celebrated for their diversity and the way they reflect the local traditions of the many small communities nestled in the rugged landscape of the region.

When we speak of hand-knotted quality, we are referring to the specific technique of looping thread around the foundation strands. This creates a durable, pile-rich surface that is both functional and beautiful. The use of a sturdy foundation ensures that the rug retains its shape and beauty over time, standing up to the demands of daily life.

Signature design elements of this tradition often include a central medallion surrounded by stylized floral or geometric motifs. The borders are typically well-defined, acting as a frame for the central field. While traditional palettes often feature deep reds and blues, each weaver brings their own artistic interpretation to these time-honoured patterns.

Owning a rug from this area is an investment in cultural heritage. Collectors and enthusiasts value these pieces for their authenticity and the skill required to produce them. By bringing this rug into your home, you are preserving a craft tradition that has been passed down through generations, connecting your modern space to a rich historical narrative.

This rug is created through a traditional hand-knotted process, where each individual knot is tied by hand onto a sturdy foundation. This labour-intensive method ensures that the pile remains secure and tight, providing the structural integrity needed to withstand years of use in a busy home.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, this rug represents a significant commitment of time and human skill. The precision required to maintain such consistency across the entire 2.94 m2 surface means that a single artisan may spend months carefully building the pattern, knot by knot, to achieve the sharp detail and uniform pile height you see today.

The substantial weight of 10.3 kg is a direct result of this dense construction, signalling the high volume of Wool used to create a plush and resilient finish. This weight not only enhances the rug's longevity but also ensures it stays firmly in place, reflecting the quality and care invested in its creation.
