HamadanHand KnottedRug

Brown / Black75 x 108 cm

Hamadan rugs take their name from one of the oldest cities in the Middle East, located in the mountainous region of the western Middle East. This area has long been a vibrant hub for rug production, serving as a collection point for the many nomadic and village weavers who populate the surrounding countryside.

The term Hamadan refers to a diverse family of rugs rather than a single specific style. Because they are produced in hundreds of different villages, each piece often carries unique characteristics, such as specific tribal motifs or regional colour palettes that distinguish it from the wider collective of Middle Eastern carpets.

Signature design elements in this tradition often include a central medallion surrounded by a field of stylised floral sprays or geometric botanical forms. The borders are typically well-defined, providing a formal frame that balances the intricate interior patterns and ensures the design feels cohesive and intentional.

Owning a piece from this region is a way to connect with a long-standing heritage of domestic artistry. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the way they showcase the individuality of the weaver, making them a meaningful addition to any home that appreciates history and skill.

This rug is expertly hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill to achieve such a precise result. By carefully tying thousands of individual knots, the artisan ensures that the pile is dense, uniform, and exceptionally durable, resulting in a finished product that is far superior to any mass-produced alternative.

With a weight of 3.2 kg for its 108 x 75 cm size, this rug demonstrates a high density of materials that speaks to its quality and structural integrity. This significant weight is a direct result of the intensive manual effort involved, providing a heavy, substantial feel that stays securely in place on your floor.

The creation of this specific rug represents weeks of dedicated labour, as every detail in the floral and geometric motifs is painstakingly rendered. This level of human involvement is what gives the piece its life and character, ensuring that the final result is not just a rug, but a long-lasting investment in traditional craft.
