HosseinabadHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red157 x 200 cm

The Hosseinabad rug tradition originates from the Hamadan region of the Middle East, an area long celebrated for its prolific and diverse weaving heritage. These rugs are deeply rooted in the local village culture, where families have passed down specific design motifs and weaving skills through many generations.

The distinctive character of these rugs comes from the way they interpret traditional patterns with a local aesthetic. Often featuring a central medallion surrounded by stylised floral or geometric elements, they represent a bridge between formal, courtly designs and the more expressive, rustic styles found in nomadic and village weaving traditions.

Signature elements of this tradition include a strong, often red-dominant field contrasted by dark, complex borders. The patterns are usually quite geometric, demonstrating a clear focus on symmetry and balance, which makes them highly versatile for a wide range of home interiors.

Owning a Hosseinabad rug is an investment in human skill and regional history. Collectors value these pieces for their authenticity and the way they tell the story of their origin through every knot. By choosing such a rug, you are preserving a craft tradition and bringing a piece of cultural heritage into your daily environment.

This rug is created through a traditional hand-knotted process, where every strand of Wool is individually tied to the foundation by skilled artisans. This labour-intensive technique requires immense patience and precision, ensuring the rug possesses a structural integrity that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match.

With a weight of 13.2 kg for its size, this rug demonstrates a dense and robust construction. This weight is a direct indicator of the generous amount of high-quality Wool used and the tightness of the weave, both of which contribute to the rug's durability and its ability to maintain its form and beauty over time.
