HosseinabadHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red215 x 315 cm

Hosseinabad rugs originate from a storied region in the Middle East, where rug-weaving has been a vital part of local life for centuries. These rugs are highly regarded for their robust construction and the way they reflect the artistic heritage of their origin. They are often produced in smaller, rural workshops where traditional methods are preserved, ensuring that the character of the regional weaving style remains authentic.

The term hand-knotted refers to the time-honoured technique of looping individual strands of wool onto a foundation. This method is what gives the rug its superior durability and texture. By using a double-knotting style often found in this region, the weavers ensure that the pile is firmly secured, creating a surface that is both dense and resistant to the rigours of daily use.

Visually, these rugs are often defined by their deep, saturated fields and intricate, geometric patterns. A signature of the style is the balanced use of motifs, often featuring a central medallion surrounded by dense, repeating designs that draw inspiration from local landscapes and historical symbols. The borders are typically formal and elaborate, framing the central field to create a cohesive and harmonious aesthetic.

Collectors value these pieces not only for their beauty but for the cultural history they represent. Owning a Hosseinabad is an investment in a craft that relies on human skill rather than industrial automation. It is a testament to the enduring appeal of traditional design and the dedication of the artisans who continue to produce these rugs using techniques that have remained largely unchanged for generations.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who have honed their craft over generations. The process is one of intense focus and patience, where every single knot is tied by hand onto a cotton foundation to build the final design. With a size of 315 x 215 cm, the creation of this piece represents hundreds of hours of dedicated labour, ensuring the highest level of structural integrity.

The density and weight of 28.4 kg are direct indicators of the quality and effort invested in its production. By packing a significant amount of material into every square centimetre, the artisans create a pile that is not only dense and soft to the touch but also exceptionally resilient against wear. This rigorous method ensures that the patterns remain sharp and the rug maintains its shape and beauty over time, justifying the investment in such a substantial, hand-crafted heirloom.
