The quality of the construction is evident in every detail, from the sharpness of the floral patterns to the resilience of the pile. This is a rug built to be lived with, offering a combination of lasting durability and aesthetic charm that will remain a cherished part of your home for years to come.

The Ilam Sherkat Farsh rugs originate from the Middle East, a region with a deep-seated history of textile production that dates back centuries. These rugs are highly regarded for their adherence to traditional design principles while showcasing the distinct regional styles that have evolved in the city of Ilam.

The term Sherkat Farsh refers to the organised production standards that have helped preserve the high quality and artistic integrity of these creations. By maintaining rigorous standards for material selection and knotting techniques, these workshops ensure that every rug produced is a testament to the endurance of Middle Eastern weaving traditions.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their balanced compositions, often centering on elegant medallions that draw the eye. The floral patterns, known for their fluidity and grace, are framed by decorative borders that anchor the design. The use of subtle, soft tones is a hallmark of this tradition, creating an understated elegance that feels both grounded and sophisticated.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an act of preserving heritage. These pieces are not merely floor coverings but are cultural artefacts that reflect the skill and dedication of the weavers who created them. Owning one allows you to connect with a long lineage of craft, bringing a sense of history and human artistry into your modern home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. With 640,000 knots per m2, the labour involved in creating such a dense and detailed surface is significant, often taking months of dedicated work to complete.

The high knot density is the key to the rug’s quality, ensuring the intricate patterns remain crisp and clear while providing a luxurious, supportive feel underfoot. This level of precision requires a steady hand and years of training, resulting in a robust foundation that ensures the rug will withstand the test of time.

The substantial weight of 8.3 kg for its 200 x 138 cm size is a testament to the quality of the materials and the density of the construction. Every knot is placed by hand, creating a level of depth and texture that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match, making it a true investment in craft.
