Isfahan rugs are celebrated globally as the pinnacle of Middle Eastern weaving, originating from the historic city of Isfahan. Known for its rich cultural heritage, the city has long been a centre for the arts, influencing the development of sophisticated rug designs that often mirror the intricate tile work and floral motifs found in local architecture.

The quality of these rugs is often determined by the fineness of the weave and the materials used. In this piece, the use of silk for the foundation is a hallmark of the highest level of craft, providing a refined structural base that allows the wool pile to be knotted with incredible density and precision.

Signature design elements of Isfahan rugs typically include a central medallion surrounded by flowing floral arabesques and complex vine scrolls. This particular rug adheres to these traditional motifs, showcasing a balanced and harmonious layout that demonstrates the classic aesthetic values prized by collectors and art enthusiasts alike.

Owning an antique Isfahan is more than just acquiring a floor covering; it is an investment in a storied tradition. These pieces are highly sought after for their cultural weight and the immense skill required to produce them, serving as a lasting link to the artistic heritage of the Middle East.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that reflects the dedication and precision of the artisan. With a density of 490,000 knots per m2, the creation of this 350 x 250 cm piece represents thousands of hours of focused, skilled work. This level of detail allows for the intricate floral patterns to be rendered with remarkable clarity and sharpness.

The construction is further elevated by the use of silk in the warp, which provides the foundation with exceptional strength and stability. This premium material choice, combined with the significant weight of 26.3 kg, results in a robust and long-lasting rug that maintains its shape and structural integrity over time.

Every knot is placed by hand to ensure a consistent, dense pile that is built to endure. The time and human effort invested in this piece are evident in its flawless execution and the refined quality of the finish, making it a premium investment in traditional craftsmanship.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Silk

Silk is an exclusive natural fibre that provides a soft and shiny feeling to rugs. The material can also be used to enhance details in wool rugs and in some, silk can make up the entire pile and sometimes even the warp. Elegant rugs with rich details can only be made with silk because other fibres are too thick for this purpose. Silk is a durable and hard-wearing fibre that lasts a long time and becomes more beautiful over time. Due to its sensitivity to liquids, it is advisable to refrain from positioning the rug in areas where there is a high likelihood of moisture or potential spills.
