Dark red / Black138 x 200 cm

Kazak rugs take their name from the historic town of Kazak in the southern Caucasus, an area renowned for bold geometric designs and striking colour palettes. Over generations, weavers migrated across borders, bringing these cherished design traditions to Afghanistan where local artisans adopted and preserved the craft with great skill.

The traditional design language of Kazak rugs is characterised by bold medallions, sharp geometric motifs, and hooked borders that draw inspiration from ancient tribal symbols. Artisans use these motifs to tell visual stories, arranging octagons and star forms within a structured framework that commands attention in any room.

Natural dyes and contrasting tones form the bedrock of this regional style, traditionally pairing deep reds and dark accents with ivory highlights to create dramatic visual depth. These time-honoured combinations give each rug a distinct personality that connects contemporary interiors with centuries of weaving history.

Collecting a Kazak rug means acquiring a piece of living cultural heritage that represents human patience, skill, and storytelling. These rugs are valued for their enduring strength and traditional artistry, making them cherished additions to homes that appreciate authentic craftsmanship.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who spend months passing individual strands of 100% wool through the foundation. Weighing 8.3 kg across its 2.76 m2 surface, the construction features a dense arrangement of 40,000 knots per m2, totalling approximately 110,400 hand-tied knots.

The meticulous hand-knotting process requires immense patience and precise mathematical planning to maintain the traditional geometric layout. Such a high knot count translates directly into a tighter, more durable structure that resists daily wear while keeping the pile plush and supportive.
