Kazak FineHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Brown142 x 200 cm

Kazak rugs trace their lineage to the mountainous regions of the Caucasus, where nomadic and village weavers developed a bold design language that later flourished across parts of Central Asia and Afghanistan. These communities drew inspiration from their surrounding landscapes, translating local symbols and tribal memories into durable floor coverings designed to withstand harsh winters and nomadic life.

The construction techniques used in these traditional rugs rely on dense wool knotting that creates a supportive and resilient pile. Artisans select natural wool for its inherent resilience and ability to take rich dyes, building a foundation that maintains its structural integrity and comforting feel through decades of daily use in the home.

Visually, Kazak rugs are known for their striking geometric motifs, large medallions, and crisp tribal patterns framed by structured borders. While traditional palettes often feature deep reds and blues, many pieces incorporate contrasting tones like ivory, charcoal, and soft rust to create a dynamic interplay of colour across the wool surface.

Collecting a traditional Kazak rug means welcoming a piece of living heritage into your home. These rugs carry the cultural weight of centuries-old weaving traditions, celebrating the skill and patience of makers whose artistry continues to bring warmth and authentic character to contemporary living spaces.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Afghanistan, a traditional craft process requiring immense patience, steady hands, and deep technical knowledge. Bringing this piece to life took months of dedicated handiwork, with every single knot individually tied onto the foundation.

The 40,000 knots per m2 density results in a durable and supportive structure with a dense pile that holds its shape and appearance over years of daily use. This considered knot density provides a fine balance between structural integrity and a comforting underfoot feel.

Weighing 8.5 kg, the substantial construction reflects the generous amount of natural wool and human effort invested in its creation. Every stage of the weaving process relies on traditional techniques passed down through generations, ensuring a level of build quality that machine-made rugs cannot replicate.
