Kazak FineHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Black148 x 189 cm

Kazak rugs find their historical roots in the Caucasus region, where nomadic and village weavers crafted resilient floor coverings using geometric motifs and bold primary tones. Over generations, these distinct weaving traditions migrated along historical trade routes into neighbouring countries, where Afghan artisans adopted and preserved these classic design elements with remarkable skill.

The traditional techniques used in crafting these rugs involve intricate knotting methods that have been passed down through families for centuries. Using two-ply or multi-ply yarns twisted for strength, artisans create a dense, lustrous pile that stands up to daily wear while developing a softer, richer character as it ages.

Signature design elements of the Kazak tradition include bold geometric medallions, star motifs, and rectilinear borders inspired by tribal symbolism. This specific piece features striking central medallions enclosed by carefully balanced secondary borders, showcasing the characteristic visual rhythm of the style.

Collecting a Kazak rug means welcoming a piece of living cultural heritage into your home. These rugs are valued not only for their robust construction and lasting beauty, but also for the generational knowledge and human artistry stitched into every single knot.

This rug is entirely handmade through traditional hand-knotted techniques by skilled artisans in Afghanistan. Bringing this piece to life requires months of patient human labour, where every single knot is tied by hand to ensure structural integrity.

With a knot density of 40,000 knots per m2 across the 189 x 148 cm dimensions, artisans hand-placed approximately 111,991 individual knots. This exacting process demands immense precision, resulting in the sharp pattern definition, dense pile, and lasting durability that define this craft tradition.

Weighing 8.4 kg, the substantial construction reflects the heavy investment of natural wool and careful hand-tying. This high weight-to-size ratio points to a dense, robust foundation built to remain a cherished part of your home for generations.
