Kerman FineHand KnottedRug

Brown / Orange275 x 375 cm

Kerman rugs originate from the desert city of Kerman in the Middle East, a region with a centuries-old reputation for producing some of the most sophisticated floor coverings in the world. Historically, these rugs were favoured by royalty and the elite for their delicate designs and the exceptional quality of their materials.

The terminology used to describe these pieces often reflects the specific weaving centres or the master designers responsible for the patterns. A 'Fine' designation indicates a higher degree of knotting density and attention to detail, which allows for the fluid, curvilinear floral motifs that distinguish these rugs from more geometric tribal styles.

Signature design elements for this tradition include elaborate floral sprays, ornate medallions, and sweeping vines that cover the field in a garden-like display. The borders are typically as detailed as the centre, often featuring intricate scrollwork that frames the central composition and provides a sense of enclosure.

Collectors value Kerman rugs for their artistic depth and the refined skill required to produce them. Owning a piece from this tradition is a commitment to preserving a legacy of beauty, as these rugs are celebrated not just for their utility, but as significant cultural artifacts that bring elegance and grace to any interior.

Crafted through a dedicated hand-knotted technique, this rug represents hundreds of hours of focused human effort. The foundation is built upon a sturdy cotton base, providing the necessary tension for the wool pile to be secured knot by knot by skilled artisans.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the creation of this 375 x 275 cm rug is a significant undertaking that requires deep expertise. This level of precision allows for the complex, flowing floral patterns to be rendered with clarity and ensures a dense, durable pile that stands up to the demands of daily use.

The weight of 30.9 kg is a clear indicator of the generous amount of materials used and the tightness of the weave. This physical substance is the mark of a well-constructed piece that offers both structural integrity and a luxurious feel, justifying the time and skill invested in its creation.
