Dark red / Brown294 x 394 cm

Kerman rugs originate from the desert city of Kerman in the Middle East, a region with a centuries-old reputation for producing some of the most sophisticated and artistic floor coverings in the world. Historically, Kerman was a vital hub on trade routes, allowing its weavers to draw inspiration from diverse cultural aesthetics while maintaining a distinct local identity.

The term Kerman refers to a specific tradition of weaving that is celebrated for its technical excellence and elaborate floral designs. These rugs are known for their complex use of colour and the way they incorporate botanical elements, such as vases, trees, and intricate blossoms, into a harmonious layout that feels both structured and organic.

Signature design elements of these rugs often include a prominent central medallion or a sweeping 'Shah Abbasi' floral pattern, which fills the field with flowing vines and blossoms. The borders are equally detailed, often featuring multiple bands of decorative motifs that frame the centre and emphasise the overall symmetry of the design.

Collectors value Kerman rugs for their historical significance and the immense skill required to produce them. Owning one is an investment in a storied craft tradition, representing a legacy of beauty and technical mastery that has been passed down through generations of families in the Middle East.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to complete every individual detail. The process requires a high level of patience and precision, with thousands of knots placed by hand to ensure the structural integrity and longevity of the finished piece.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the rug achieves a remarkable balance between pattern clarity and pile durability. This density is a testament to the labour-intensive nature of its creation, resulting in a robust foundation that is built to last for generations.

The substantial weight of 34.8 kg reflects the generous amount of high-quality materials used in its construction. This weight serves as a hallmark of its quality, indicating a dense and well-crafted foundation that remains stable and retains its shape over time.
