Keshan Fine ca. 1960Hand KnottedRug

Dark red / Brown235 x 347 cm

This rug originates from Keshan, a historic city in Persia renowned for centuries as a central hub of fine weaving and textile arts.

Weaving traditions in this region date back to the Safavid dynasty, where court workshops produced some of the most sought-after carpets in the world, influencing styles far beyond their borders.

Dating from around 1960, this vintage piece carries forward the meticulous craft standards established generations ago.

The traditional hand-knotting technique relies on two-ply or single-ply wool strands worked patiently onto a sturdy foundation, building a dense and lustrous pile designed to endure.

The visual language of Keshan rugs typically features a central medallion surrounded by flowing floral arabesques, palmettes, and leafy tendrils, all framed by a multi-tiered border.

The deep red field paired with dark blue and soft pastel accents creates a harmonious balance characteristic of classical Persian composition.

Owning a vintage Keshan rug means preserving a tangible piece of textile heritage.

The combination of local wool quality, expert hand-knotting, and classic botanical motifs makes these rugs prized collector items that bring lasting cultural significance and warmth to any interior.

Crafted entirely by hand using traditional hand-knotted techniques, this rug represents months of dedicated work by skilled artisans.

With a density of 250000 knots per m2, the total knot count across its 347 x 235 cm dimensions reaches approximately 2,039,875 individual knots.

Weighing 30.2 kg, the heavy construction reflects the generous amount of natural wool and tight foundation required to achieve such exceptional durability.

This intensive handmade process ensures the pattern remains sharp and the pile holds its dense, supportive structure through decades of daily use.
