Keshan rugs originate from the historic city of Kashan in the Middle East, a region renowned for its deep-rooted weaving traditions that date back centuries. These rugs are celebrated for their sophisticated artistry and have long been considered some of the finest examples of floor coverings from the region.

The name refers to a specific style of weaving that emphasises precision and balance. These rugs are typically characterised by a central medallion surrounded by intricate floral and vine patterns, reflecting a design language that has been perfected over generations to create a sense of harmony and proportion.

The signature design elements often include a complex field filled with botanical motifs, such as blossoms and scrolling vines, all enclosed within a well-defined, multi-layered border. This visual complexity is a hallmark of the tradition, designed to showcase the skill of the artisan through every curve and detail of the pattern.

Owning a piece from this tradition is about more than just decoration, it is an investment in a storied craft. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their cultural significance and the dedication required to produce them, ensuring that they remain timeless treasures that add heritage and character to any home.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who have honed their craft over years of practice. The process of tying each individual knot by hand ensures a level of precision and structural integrity that simply cannot be achieved through machine-made alternatives.

Given the density of the knots and the size of this 315 x 100 cm runner, the creation process is a significant undertaking that requires months of dedicated labour. This intensive investment of time results in a remarkably durable pile that is built to withstand decades of daily use while maintaining its crisp pattern definition.

The foundation of the rug is composed of a sturdy Cotton base, which provides the necessary tension for the Wool pile. The weight of 11.7 kg is a testament to the high volume of materials used, signalling a dense construction that feels substantial and premium to the touch.

The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
