KeshanHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Black140 x 239 cm

Keshan rugs originate from the historic city of Kashan in the Middle East, a place famous for its contribution to the world of fine textiles. Located on the edge of the central deserts, this city has been a vital hub for trade and craftsmanship for centuries, with its rug-making tradition evolving to reflect the aesthetic tastes of the royal courts and the broader cultural heritage of the region.

The term Keshan refers to a specific style of weaving that emphasises structural integrity and intricate detail. These rugs are typically known for their use of high-quality Wool, which is carefully processed to create a pile that is both resilient and lustrous. This technical approach ensures that the rugs are not only beautiful but also capable of lasting for generations if cared for properly.

Visually, Keshan rugs are celebrated for their classic medallion designs, which are often surrounded by elaborate floral motifs and vine scrolls. The patterns are typically symmetrical and balanced, reflecting a deep-seated appreciation for order and beauty. This specific piece captures that traditional language, using a rich palette that highlights the complexity of the floral and geometric elements woven into the field.

Owning a piece from this tradition is a way of connecting with a long-standing legacy of artistry. These rugs are highly valued by collectors not just for their aesthetic beauty, but for the immense skill required to produce them. To possess one is to own a piece of cultural history, representing a standard of quality and a commitment to tradition that remains rare in the modern world.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. Each individual knot is tied by hand, a process that requires immense precision and a deep understanding of the craft to ensure the pattern remains sharp and consistent throughout the entire surface.

The substantial weight of 12.4 kg is a direct result of the dense, high-quality Wool construction. This weight signifies a robust foundation and a high concentration of material, which not only gives the rug its luxurious, thick pile but also guarantees its ability to withstand the demands of daily life while retaining its intricate design integrity.

The time-intensive nature of hand-knotting results in a level of durability and pattern clarity that simply cannot be achieved by machines. By investing in this piece, you are supporting a traditional craft where human skill and patience are the primary tools, resulting in a floor covering that is as structurally sound as it is visually captivating.
