Keshan rugs originate from the historic city of Kashan in the Middle East, a region renowned for its silk and Wool production since the 16th century. Historically, these rugs were produced for the royal courts and elite families, reflecting the peak of artistic achievement in the region.

The technical quality of a Keshan is defined by its dense, hand-knotted construction, which allows for the fine detail seen in its characteristic floral designs. This high density provides a durable and long-lasting foundation, setting these rugs apart as some of the most sought-after pieces in the world of traditional textile arts.

Signature design elements of a Keshan typically include a prominent central medallion surrounded by a field of intricate, scrolling vines, palmettes, and floral sprays. The borders are often equally detailed, framing the central motifs with a sense of formal balance that is iconic to this style.

Owning a Keshan is more than just adding a floor covering to your home; it is an investment in cultural heritage. Collectors value these rugs for their storytelling capacity and the immense skill required to produce them, making each piece a lasting symbol of human creativity and tradition.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. By tying every single knot by hand, the weavers achieve a level of precision and density that simply cannot be replicated by machines.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the rug showcases an impressive level of detail in its floral motifs. This high knot count is a direct indicator of the time and expertise invested, resulting in a firm, durable pile that keeps its shape and beauty over time.

The substantial weight of 21.5 kg for this 296 x 196 cm piece is a testament to the quality of materials and the density of the construction. This weight reflects the sheer amount of hand-labour and material used to build a foundation that is designed to last for many years.
