Dark yellow / Brown200 x 295 cm

Keshan rugs originate from one of the most historically significant weaving centres in the Middle East. Located on the edge of the central deserts, the city of Kashan has a centuries-old reputation for producing some of the world's finest floor coverings. These rugs are celebrated for their sophisticated floral compositions and technical excellence, reflecting a legacy of artistry that has been perfected over generations.

The term hand-knotted refers to the laborious technique where each individual strand of wool is tied by hand onto the foundation. This method creates a level of pile density and pattern clarity that simply cannot be achieved by machine-made alternatives. It is this intensive process that gives these rugs their characteristic longevity and soft, luxurious feel underfoot.

Signature design elements of a classic Keshan typically include a central medallion surrounded by a field of flowing vines, palmettes, and delicate floral sprays. The borders are often equally elaborate, framing the central motif with precise geometric or floral patterns. This particular rug captures that classic look perfectly, with a refined colour palette that highlights the intricate details of the floral arrangement.

Collectors and homeowners alike value these pieces for their cultural weight and the skill required to produce them. Owning a hand-knotted rug from this tradition is about more than just floor decor; it is about connecting with a history of human creativity and patience. Each piece represents a commitment to maintaining a craft that prioritises quality and beauty above all else.

This piece is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to bring the intricate floral design to life. The process involves tying thousands of individual knots to create a dense, resilient pile that is both durable and soft to the touch.

With 160,000 knots per m2 across its 5.9 m2 surface area, this rug contains approximately 944,000 hand-tied knots. This significant density is the reason for the exceptional sharpness of the patterns and the long-term durability of the rug, ensuring it maintains its structure and aesthetic appeal through years of use.

The weight of 21.8 kg is a testament to the generous amount of high-quality wool used in its construction. This substantial weight signals a dense, high-performing rug that is built to withstand the demands of a modern home while providing a luxurious foundation.
