Keshan - A Statement of Refined Elegance

This one-of-a-kind rug captures the essence of Middle Eastern artistry with its intricate floral motifs and deep, saturated palette. A singular piece that brings warmth and character to any room.

This rug serves as a striking centrepiece, featuring a vibrant red field adorned with a traditional central medallion and elaborate floral scrolling. Its generous size makes it an ideal choice for larger living areas where you want to anchor the space with both colour and a sense of history.

The pile is soft yet remarkably durable, providing a comfortable and tactile experience underfoot. It offers excellent natural warmth and sound absorption, creating a more peaceful and inviting environment in your home.

As a one-of-a-kind creation, this rug represents a singular artistic vision. Because no two pieces are exactly alike, owning this rug means you possess a floor covering that exists nowhere else in the world and will never be replicated.

The intricate level of detail throughout the design is a testament to the skill involved in its creation. This level of craftsmanship ensures that the rug not only looks beautiful but also stands up to daily life, maintaining its rich appearance for years to come.

The Keshan rug tradition originates from the historic city of Kashan in the Middle East, a centre long celebrated for its contributions to textile arts. Historically, these rugs were favoured by royal courts and elite households for their sophisticated designs and high-quality construction.

Technically, the Keshan style is renowned for its balanced compositions. The classic layout features a central medallion surrounded by a field of densely packed floral sprays, vines, and palmettes. This formal arrangement is framed by intricate borders that provide a sense of structure and completion to the overall design.

The use of deep, saturated colours like the signature red seen here is a hallmark of the tradition. These palettes are achieved through long-standing dyeing practices that have been refined over generations. The contrast between the central field and the darker, ornate borders highlights the depth and complexity of the floral motifs.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage. These pieces are valued for the bridge they build between historical artistic techniques and modern living spaces, offering a sense of gravity and beauty that is rarely found in contemporary floor coverings.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to complete each piece. With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the sheer amount of human labour required is immense, reflecting a commitment to quality that mass-produced items cannot match.

The precision of these knots is what gives the rug its sharp, clear pattern definition and its dense, resilient pile. By hand-tying every single knot, the weaver ensures that the structure is tight and capable of withstanding years of use while retaining its intended shape.

Given its substantial weight of 32.1 kg, this rug features a significant amount of high-quality material woven into a sturdy foundation. This density is a clear indicator of the time and expertise invested in the construction, ensuring a heavy, stable piece that lies flat and feels substantial in any home.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
