The Keshan rug tradition originates from the historic city of Kashan in the Middle East, a region renowned for its long-standing contribution to the world of fine textiles. Historically, these rugs were favoured by royalty and the elite, prized for their complex designs and the exceptional skill required to weave them.

The term Keshan refers to both the geographical origin and the distinct design language that has evolved over centuries. These rugs are celebrated for their balanced compositions, which often feature a central medallion surrounded by a sea of intricate floral sprays and vines, all contained within a beautifully detailed border.

Technically, the quality of a Keshan is defined by its precise knotting. A higher knot density, as seen in this piece, allows for the fluid and detailed patterns that distinguish these rugs from simpler styles. This density ensures that the intricate curves of the floral motifs remain crisp and clear, showcasing the weaver's mastery of the loom.

Owning a Keshan is more than just a decor choice; it is an invitation to celebrate a rich cultural heritage. These rugs are highly sought after by collectors who value the combination of artistic tradition and technical excellence, making them a lasting investment in the beauty and character of your home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a traditional craft that requires immense patience and skill. By individually tying each knot onto the cotton foundation, the artisan ensures that the rug possesses a dense, sturdy pile that is both resilient and soft to the touch.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, this runner represents a significant investment of time and human effort. Creating a piece of this size and complexity involves weeks of dedicated work, allowing for the fine detail and smooth transitions in the floral patterns that define the Keshan style.

The 9.5 kg weight of this 313 x 82 cm rug is a testament to the generous amount of high-quality material used in its creation. This density not only contributes to the rug’s substantial feel but also ensures that it stays firmly in place, providing a reliable and durable floor covering for your home.
