Crafted entirely from wool, the runner provides a natural warmth and a grounding texture that enhances any space. The natural properties of the wool ensure the flatweave remains durable and resilient over time, maintaining its structure under daily use.

As a one-of-a-kind creation, this runner carries a distinct personality that cannot be replicated. Choosing this piece means bringing an exclusive work of textile art into your home, knowing that no other identical version exists anywhere in the world.

Handcrafted in Afghanistan, this contemporary rug represents a living weaving tradition. Its long runner format is designed to bring colour, pattern, and a sense of direction to narrower spaces, making it a functional and beautiful addition to your interior.

Design

The design is defined by a vibrant multicolor palette, featuring a bold orange border that frames a central field of repeating geometric diamond motifs. The symmetrical layout and clean lines create a structured, balanced look that draws the eye along the length of the runner.

Kelim weaving in Afghanistan is an ancient nomadic art form, developed by tribal communities who crafted these flatwoven textiles for practical use in tents and homes. These rugs were designed to be lightweight, durable, and easy to transport across the rugged terrain of Central Asia.

The term Old Style refers to the preservation of traditional design principles and weaving methods. Even when crafted in contemporary times, these rugs honour the historical techniques of Afghan weavers, using hand-spun wool and classic geometric layouts that have been passed down through families.

The visual language of this runner is rooted in traditional Afghan symbology, where repeating diamond motifs and decorative borders represent protection, unity, and the natural landscape. The vibrant orange and multicolor tones reflect the regional preference for warm, expressive palettes that bring light into the home.

Owning an Afghan Kelim is an appreciation of cultural heritage and artisanal skill. These flatweaves are collected globally not just for their decorative appeal, but for their status as authentic expressions of tribal history and the enduring spirit of Afghan craftsmanship.

This runner is hand-woven using traditional flatweaving techniques, a process that requires immense skill, patience, and physical precision. Unlike piled rugs, Kelims are created by tightly interlacing the wool threads to form a flat, reversible structure with no pile.

Weighing 1.3 kg and measuring 194 x 68 cm, the runner demonstrates a tight and balanced weave. The lightweight yet sturdy nature of the piece is a direct result of the artisan's ability to maintain even tension across the loom throughout the entire weaving process.

Every geometric shift and colour transition in the pattern is created by hand, requiring the weaver to manually change threads and secure the ends. This intensive method ensures a highly durable finish, resulting in a flatweave that is built to last.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
