This unique Kelim Afghan Old Style runner offers a beautiful way to introduce warmth and character to your floors. Crafted entirely from wool, the flatwoven surface provides a low 5 mm profile that sits comfortably under doors and furniture, making it a practical choice for busy areas like hallways or entryways.

As a one-of-a-kind creation, this runner carries its own distinct personality that cannot be replicated. When you welcome this piece into your home, you are acquiring an individual work of art that will never be made again, ensuring your interior remains personal and distinct.

Woven by hand in Afghanistan, the rug showcases a rich palette of orange, blue, and green tones. The natural wool fibers feel grounded and resilient underfoot, offering a tactile connection to traditional weaving cultures while standing up beautifully to daily life.

Kelim weaving in Afghanistan is a deeply rooted tradition passed down through generations of nomadic and village weavers. These flatwoven rugs were originally created for practical daily use in tents and homes, serving as blankets, bags, and protective floor coverings.

The term Kelim refers to a specific tapestry-weave technique where the weft strands are tightly pulled through the warp, creating a flat surface with no pile. This construction makes the rug lightweight, flexible, and exceptionally durable, suited to a mobile lifestyle.

This piece features classic tribal motifs, including repeating diamond patterns that run along the central axis. In Afghan weaving traditions, these geometric shapes often carry symbolic meanings, representing protection, family, or natural elements, rendered here in a lively orange and multicolor palette.

Owning an Afghan Kelim means bringing a piece of living history into your home. These rugs are highly valued by collectors and design enthusiasts alike for their expressive geometric designs and the authentic connection they offer to regional weaving heritages.

This runner is handwoven using traditional flatweaving techniques that require immense skill and patience. By interlacing the warp and weft threads without a knotted pile, the weaver creates a lightweight yet highly durable structure that displays the pattern clearly on both sides.

Weighing 1.4 kg and measuring 197 x 70 cm, the rug reflects a balanced density and structure. Every shift in colour and pattern represents the deliberate choice of the artisan, making the final piece a physical record of the weaver's time and dedication.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
