Kelim Afghan Old Style - A Warm Accent for Your Hallway

Discover a genuinely one-of-a-kind Afghan runner featuring charming geometric patterns. This handmade flatweave brings authentic warmth to your home.

Welcome a truly one-of-a-kind treasure into your home with this Afghan runner. Because every piece in this collection is crafted individually by hand, no two rugs are identical, meaning the exact pattern and character you receive exists nowhere else in the world and will never be replicated.

Measuring 293 x 77 cm, this runner is designed to bring a welcoming and cosy feel to narrow spaces like hallways, corridors, or entryways. Its flat surface sits comfortably underfoot with a low 5 mm thickness that makes it easy to place near doors without catching.

The tactile experience is rooted in traditional flatweave construction, providing a sturdy and reliable surface that handles everyday footsteps with ease. It adds natural warmth and helps soften sound in busy transit areas of your house.

Originating from Afghanistan, this runner carries a rich cultural presence that blends easily with various interior styles. Owning it means bringing a piece of genuine artisan heritage into your daily life for years of enjoyment.

Kelim weaving has deep roots across Central Asia and the Middle East, where nomadic and village communities traditionally created flatwoven textiles for everyday utility and decoration. These textiles served versatile purposes in daily life, functioning as floor coverings, blankets, and storage bags during seasonal migrations.

The term kelim refers specifically to a flatweave construction method where no pile is knotted into the foundation. Instead, the weft strands are tightly interlaced across the warp yarns to create a smooth, reversible surface with crisp geometric designs.

Traditional Afghan kelims are celebrated for their balanced geometric layouts, diamond motifs, and earthy palettes derived from natural dyes. This particular piece carries on those age-old design languages while offering a fresh visual rhythm suited for modern living spaces.

Collecting vintage and traditional kelims connects your living space to a long lineage of textile artistry. Each piece preserves the cultural memory and individual hand of the maker, making it a valued addition for those who appreciate authentic craft.

This runner is entirely handmade through traditional hand-weaving techniques passed down through generations. Skilled artisans work carefully on a vertical or horizontal loom, passing strands by hand to build the sturdy flatweave structure without the use of automated machinery.

Weighing 2.3 kg across its 293 x 77 cm dimensions, the construction reflects a dense and thoughtful use of material. Achieving this level of tightness requires significant human effort and hours of focused labour by experienced weavers who control every single pass of the shuttle.

The precision of this hand-woven method ensures clean lines and a durable finish that resists everyday wear. By investing this time and skill, the makers create a reliable home textile designed to maintain its character through daily use.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
