As a one-of-a-kind piece, this rug carries a distinct character that cannot be replicated. Owning it means bringing a singular work of textile art into your home, ensuring your interior features a design that is entirely personal and unique.

Originating from Afghanistan, the rug showcases the regional mastery of flatweaving. The combination of traditional diamond motifs and a contemporary age of under twenty years makes it a versatile piece that bridges classic tribal design with modern living requirements.

Design

The design is defined by a series of bold diamond medallions stacked along the central field, surrounded by intricate geometric borders. The vibrant orange base is balanced by accents of red, green, blue, and purple, creating a lively visual rhythm.

Traditional Kelim-inspired motifs run horizontally along the ends, framed by short delicate fringes that complete the classic tribal look. The symmetry of the patterns provides a sense of balance, making it an engaging focal point for any room.

Kelim weaving in Afghanistan is a deeply rooted nomadic tradition, where flatwoven textiles were originally created for practical everyday use in tents and homes. These rugs served as blankets, bags, and floor coverings, valued for their durability and lightweight nature.

The term Kelim refers to a slit-weave technique where the weft strands are tightly woven through the warp, creating a flat surface with no pile. This method produces sharp geometric lines and reversible patterns, making the rug exceptionally durable and easy to clean.

The visual language of Afghan Kelims is rich with symbolic meaning, often featuring repeating diamond shapes and protective border motifs. The vibrant orange and multicoloured palette of this contemporary piece represents a modern evolution of these ancient tribal designs.

Acquiring an Afghan Kelim means supporting a living craft tradition that has survived for centuries. Each piece represents the individual expression of the weaver, making it a valued addition for collectors and homeowners who appreciate genuine textile heritage.

This piece is hand woven by skilled artisans in Afghanistan, using techniques passed down through generations. The flatweaving process requires careful coordination and manual precision, resulting in a durable structure with no pile.

Weighing 0.9 kg for its compact 116 x 79 cm size, the rug demonstrates a tight and secure weave. This lightweight yet robust construction is achieved by firmly packing the wool threads, creating a flat surface that is both resilient and easy to maintain.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
