Design

The design features a vibrant multicolored palette dominated by rich red, orange, and blue tones arranged in a balanced geometric composition. A central series of nested diamond shapes creates a strong focal point, complemented by traditional stepped motifs.

The outer borders are decorated with repeating geometric patterns that frame the central field, while clean horizontal fringes at both ends complete the classic flatwoven look.

Kelim rugs have a long history in Afghanistan, where they have been woven by nomadic and village communities for centuries. Originally created for practical use as floor coverings, blankets, and storage bags, these textiles are celebrated for their expressive patterns.

The term Kelim refers to a specific flatweave technique where the horizontal weft threads are tightly pulled through the vertical warp threads. This creates a smooth, pileless surface that is both lightweight and highly durable.

The visual language of these rugs relies on geometric motifs and symbolic shapes that represent the weaver's surroundings, beliefs, and regional identity. The bold use of red and contrasting tones is a classic feature of Afghan flatweaves.

Owning a hand-woven Afghan Kelim connects your home to an ancient craft tradition. These pieces are highly valued by collectors for their authentic rustic appeal and the individual stories woven into their patterns.

This rug is hand-woven using traditional flatweaving techniques that have been passed down through generations of skilled weavers. The process requires careful coordination and patience, resulting in a durable, pileless textile.

Weighing 0.9 kg and measuring 115 x 82 cm, the rug demonstrates a tight, stable weave. Every thread is placed by hand, creating a lightweight yet robust structure that reflects the direct connection between the weaver and the finished piece.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
