Owning this rug means choosing a piece with a soul and a story. It is not mass-produced, and the variations inherent in its hand-woven construction are what give it its lasting charm and authentic appeal, making it a thoughtful addition to any considered interior.

Kelim rugs from Afghanistan are rooted in a deep tradition of nomadic artistry. These flat-woven textiles have been created for generations by skilled artisans who draw upon ancient patterns passed down through families, reflecting the history and culture of the region.

Unlike pile rugs, a kelim is created by interweaving the warp and weft strands to create a flat, durable surface. This technique allows for sharp, crisp geometric designs that are iconic to the style, requiring a steady hand and a precise eye to ensure the tension remains consistent across the entire length of the runner.

The signature design of this piece is defined by its repeating diamond motifs, which are frequently seen in traditional Afghan weaving. These patterns often hold symbolic meanings related to protection or tribal identity, and the vibrant colour palette used here provides a lively, contemporary feel while respecting the classic aesthetic of the region.

These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the human effort behind every thread. Owning an Afghan kelim is an invitation to connect with a long-standing craft tradition that emphasises beauty, utility, and the enduring nature of hand-made goods in a modern world.

This rug is entirely hand-woven, a process that requires immense patience and skill from the artisan. The foundation is built with careful attention to tension and alignment, ensuring the runner maintains its shape and structural integrity for years to come.

With a weight of 2.5 kg, this piece demonstrates a dense and sturdy construction for its size. The significant amount of wool used in its creation results in a durable, substantial feel that reflects the time and effort invested in its production by skilled weavers who carry on these traditional methods.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
