Kelim Ariana Trend - A Warm Expression of Craft

Handwoven in Afghanistan, this one-of-a-kind Kelim Ariana Trend rug brings a vibrant geometric charm and natural warmth to your home.

This flatwoven piece offers a practical yet highly tactile addition to your living space. With a low 5 mm thickness, it sits comfortably under furniture and near doorways, making it an easy and versatile choice for daily life.

Crafted entirely from wool, the rug provides a naturally warm and resilient surface underfoot. The inherent strength of wool ensures that the textile maintains its structure and rich texture, even with regular use.

As a truly one-of-a-kind creation, this specific rug carries its own distinct personality. No two pieces are ever identical, meaning you are welcoming a singular work of textile art into your home that cannot be replicated or replaced.

Originating from the weaving communities of Afghanistan, this contemporary piece blends traditional flatweaving techniques with a fresh, modern aesthetic, bringing authentic provenance and character to your interior.

Design

The rug features a vibrant multicolor composition with a prominent display of various shades arranged across the surface. It displays an intricate geometric pattern consisting of repeating diamond shapes and stepped motifs throughout the field. The surface appears flat with a structured appearance typical of traditional flatwoven textiles. Short fringes are visible along the top and bottom edges.

Kilim weaving in Afghanistan is a deeply rooted tradition, passed down through generations of skilled artisans. These flatwoven textiles were historically crafted by nomadic and semi-nomadic communities for practical use in tents and homes, serving as blankets, bags, and protective floor coverings.

The term Kilim refers to a specific flatweaving technique where the weft threads are tightly interwoven with the warp, leaving no pile. This creates a lightweight, reversible, and highly durable textile that showcases the raw beauty of the natural wool.

The visual language of the Kelim Ariana Trend is defined by its bold geometric patterns, particularly the repeating diamond and stepped motifs. These traditional symbols often carry meanings of protection and prosperity, rendered here in a lively multicolor palette against a grounding beige background.

Today, Afghan Kilims are celebrated globally by collectors and design enthusiasts alike. Owning a handwoven Kilim is not just about decorating a floor, it is about preserving a living craft tradition and bringing a piece of genuine cultural expression into a modern living space.

This rug is handwoven by skilled artisans in Afghanistan, using traditional flatweaving methods that require immense patience and precision. Every single thread is guided by hand, creating a tight, structured weave that machine production simply cannot replicate.

Weighing 2.3 kg and measuring 182 x 125 cm, the rug demonstrates a dense and substantial weave for a flatwoven textile. This balance of weight and size ensures the rug lies flat on the floor while remaining easy to handle, reflecting the careful handwork invested in its creation.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
