Kelim rugs originate from a rich heritage of flat-weaving traditions practiced across Central Asia and the Middle East for centuries. Nomadic and village weavers created these textiles primarily for practical use as floor coverings, blankets, and storage bags, utilising local materials and natural dyes available in their surroundings.

The term Kelim refers to a flat-woven textile produced by tightly interweaving warp and weft strands, resulting in a smooth surface with no raised pile. This ancient technique allows weavers to create sharp geometric patterns and reversible designs that showcase the craft in its purest form.

The design of the Ariana Trend category draws inspiration from traditional Afghan motifs, featuring repeating diamond medallions and earthy colour palettes. The intricate play of shapes creates a balanced visual rhythm that has remained popular across generations of rug enthusiasts and collectors.

Collecting vintage and contemporary Kelim rugs is a way to preserve traditional textile arts and bring authentic cultural history into modern homes. Each piece stands as a testament to the enduring skill of Afghan weavers, making it a valued addition for anyone who appreciates genuine craftsmanship.

This runner is meticulously hand-woven by skilled artisans using traditional flat-weave techniques passed down through generations. Creating a piece of this size and detail requires weeks of careful labour and a deep understanding of textile traditions.

Weighing 1.4 kg across its 197 x 70 cm dimensions, the flat-woven structure relies on tightly packed wool yarns to create a strong, durable fabric. Without a traditional pile, the integrity of the rug depends entirely on the precision and tension applied by the weaver during the process.

The human element behind every single thread ensures a level of authenticity and durability that machines simply cannot replicate. Each colour transition and geometric motif reflects the artisan's careful hand and eye, resulting in a durable floor covering built to last for years.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
