The Kelim Ariana tradition finds its roots in the long-standing weaving heritage of Afghanistan. These rugs are inspired by centuries-old designs that have evolved to meet modern interior needs while maintaining the soul of traditional nomadic textile arts.

A Kilim is a flat-weave rug, meaning it lacks a pile, which makes it remarkably versatile and lightweight. The term refers to the specific technique of interweaving warp and weft strands to create the pattern, resulting in a rug that is double-sided and highly durable.

The signature design of the Ariana style often features bold, geometric medallions or repeating patterns rendered in a sophisticated, earthy colour palette. These motifs are not merely decorative but often carry cultural significance, telling stories through the deliberate arrangement of shapes and hues.

Owning an authentic piece from this tradition is a way to connect with a history of human skill and artistry. These rugs are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their ability to bring a sense of history and warmth into a contemporary home, serving as a lasting testament to the weaver's craft.

This runner is meticulously hand-woven, a process that requires significant patience and a deep understanding of textile traditions. By interweaving the Wool threads manually, the artisan achieves a tight, durable structure that is both flexible and strong, far surpassing the character of machine-made alternatives.

The 1.4 kg weight of this 199 x 70 cm runner serves as a testament to the amount of high-quality Wool used and the careful effort invested by the weaver. This density is essential for creating a rug that stays firmly in place and offers a substantial feel, reflecting a level of craft that prioritises longevity and authentic texture.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
