Kelim Ariana Trend - A Piece of Home Worth Keeping

This one-of-a-kind Kelim Ariana Trend runner is hand-woven in Afghanistan, bringing a warm, geometric presence to your hallway or narrow space.

This hand-woven runner offers a grounded, tactile experience underfoot, with a low 5 mm pile that sits comfortably in high-use areas and easily clears low doors. Crafted from wool, it brings natural warmth and a soft feel to your home, making any narrow space feel instantly more welcoming.

As a truly one-of-a-kind piece, this runner cannot be replicated. Owning it means bringing a unique story into your home, knowing that no other space in the world will have this exact design.

Woven in Afghanistan, this contemporary piece carries the proud traditions of regional craftsmanship into a modern setting, offering a beautiful balance of heritage and current design sensibilities.

Design

This runner features a balanced arrangement of diamond and zig-zag motifs running centrally down its length. The multicolor palette combines warm beige and brown tones with accents of blue, pink, and yellow, framed by short fringes at both ends.

Kilim weaving is one of the oldest textile traditions in the Middle East and Central Asia, originally developed by nomadic tribes for practical warmth and easy transport. The Ariana tradition represents a refined branch of this heritage, known for translating ancient tribal symbols into pieces that suit contemporary homes.

The flatweave technique used here produces a rug with no pile, meaning the pattern is created by tightly interlacing the warp and weft threads. This construction method results in a highly durable, lightweight, and reversible textile that has been trusted for centuries.

The design of this runner relies on classic geometric motifs like the diamond and zig-zag, which historically symbolised protection and the flow of water. In this modern interpretation, the traditional symbols are softened by a varied multicolor palette, making the heritage accessible for modern interiors.

Owning an Afghan Kilim is about appreciating the continuation of a living craft. Each piece reflects the individual weaver's hand, making it a valued addition for those who appreciate textile history and human skill.

This runner is hand-woven using traditional flatweaving techniques, a process that requires patience, skill, and hours of manual work. Unlike machine-made alternatives, every thread is guided by the weaver, resulting in a structurally sound piece that is built to last.

With a weight of 1.6 kg for its 220 x 73 cm size, the runner demonstrates a tight, dense weave. This density ensures the geometric patterns remain sharp and clear, while giving the flatweave the necessary substance to lie flat on your floor.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
