Design

This runner features a detailed geometric design with repeating diamond-shaped medallions and zig-zag borders. The rich multicolor palette is dominated by soft beige and earth tones, accented by gentle blues, reds, and greens that create a balanced, harmonious look.

Kilim rugs have a long history rooted in the nomadic weaving traditions of Central Asia and the Middle East. Originally crafted as functional blankets, saddlebags, and floor coverings, these flatwoven textiles have evolved into highly respected art forms while retaining their rustic charm.

The Ariana style represents a refined branch of Afghan weaving, known for incorporating softer, more contemporary colour palettes into traditional geometric layouts. This evolution allows the ancient craft to stay relevant, appealing to modern design sensibilities without losing its historical soul.

The visual language of this piece is defined by repeating geometric medallions and protective border motifs. In traditional weaving cultures, these diamond and zig-zag patterns often carried symbolic meanings, representing protection, family unity, and the natural landscape of the weaver's homeland.

Owning an Afghan Kilim is about more than just decorating a floor. It is about preserving a living craft tradition where knowledge is passed down through generations, making each piece a valuable slice of cultural heritage that brings a sense of history into your home.

This runner is hand woven by skilled artisans in Afghanistan, using traditional flatweaving techniques that require immense patience and precision. Every single thread is woven by hand, creating a tight, durable structure that highlights the authentic human touch behind the craft.

Weighing 4.6 kg and measuring 490 x 94 cm, the substantial weight of this runner relative to its flat profile indicates the dense packing of the wool threads during weaving. This high density ensures the runner lies flat on your floor and retains its shape over years of use.

The flatweave technique means the pattern is created by weaving the horizontal weft threads directly through the vertical warp threads. This demanding process results in a reversible, pile-free rug that showcases the weaver's skill on both sides of the textile.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
