Kilim rugs are a storied part of Middle Eastern weaving heritage, traditionally created as functional textiles for nomadic life. These flat-woven rugs have been produced for centuries across a vast region, reflecting the specific design languages and cultural identities of the communities that weave them.

The term Kilim refers to the specific technique of interlocking weft threads over warp threads, resulting in a pileless, reversible fabric. This method produces a thin, durable, and lightweight rug that was historically easy to transport, making it an essential item for nomadic tribes who valued both utility and beauty.

Signature design elements in modern interpretations often lean toward geometric motifs and balanced, rhythmic arrangements. While traditional kilims are known for their vibrant tribal patterns, contemporary versions often simplify these forms, using the historic flat-weave technique to highlight clear lines and sophisticated colour palettes.

Valued for their versatility and enduring craft, these rugs are collected for the skill they represent. Owning a hand-woven kilim is an investment in a tradition that prioritises manual precision, offering a tactile connection to a lineage of makers who have refined this craft over generations.

This rug is meticulously hand-woven, a process that requires significant time and focused attention from skilled artisans. By weaving the wool directly onto a sturdy cotton foundation, the makers create a flat, resilient fabric that is both lightweight and structurally sound.

Weighing 15 kg for its 300 x 200 cm size, this rug demonstrates a high density of material that speaks to the quality of its construction. The weight is a direct result of the generous amount of wool used in the weaving process, ensuring a durable finish that can withstand daily use while maintaining its form.

Every inch of this rug reflects the human effort invested in its creation. Unlike mass-produced alternatives, the hand-woven nature of this piece ensures that every detail is intentional, resulting in a finished product that is built to last and provides a level of quality that only manual craftsmanship can achieve.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
