Koliai - A Warm Welcome for Your Home

This stunning, one-of-a-kind Koliai runner brings authentic artistry to your floor. Each piece is entirely unique, showcasing the rich, traditional patterns and deep, earthy tones characteristic of its Middle Eastern heritage.

This beautiful runner offers a tactile, inviting experience underfoot, providing both warmth and a sense of grounding to any hallway or narrow living space. Its generous pile creates a soft, cushioned feel that enhances the comfort of your home while naturally absorbing sound for a calmer atmosphere.

The rug is crafted from Wool, chosen for its inherent durability and ability to maintain a rich, vibrant appearance over time. This material ensures that the surface remains resilient, even in areas of your home that see frequent foot traffic.

As a truly one-of-a-kind piece, this rug is a singular work of art that will never be replicated. Owning it means bringing a unique, authentic element into your living environment that reflects a storied tradition of craftsmanship.

Originating from the Middle East, this rug carries a sense of history and provenance that mass-produced items cannot match. Its presence adds depth and character to your interior, serving as a focal point that ties together your decor with a touch of timeless style.

The Koliai rug tradition originates from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, where the Kurdish tribes have developed a distinct and celebrated weaving heritage. These rugs are deeply connected to the nomadic and semi-nomadic lifestyles of the people who create them, reflecting the rugged landscapes and the vibrant cultural identity of the area.

Koliai rugs are known for their sturdy construction, which is a necessity for rugs intended for both domestic use and long-term durability. The term refers to the specific style of weaving and the regional aesthetic that has been passed down through generations, prioritising a thick, reliable pile that can withstand the rigours of daily life.

The visual language of these rugs is defined by bold, geometric motifs and central medallions that are often framed by intricate, decorative borders. While they often feature deep, resonant reds and blues, it is the specific combination of these motifs that marks a rug as a true Koliai, showcasing a balance between symmetry and the spontaneous creative expression of the weaver.

Collectors value these rugs for their authenticity and the human story woven into every fibre. Owning a Koliai piece is an investment in cultural heritage, representing a level of skill and tradition that remains largely unchanged by modern industrialisation, making it a meaningful addition to any thoughtful collection.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate weeks of focused effort to every piece. By tying each individual knot by hand, the weavers ensure a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that simply cannot be achieved through machine-made processes.

The substantial construction of this runner is evidenced by its weight of 17.8 kg, which speaks to the density of the Wool and the robustness of the foundation. This weight is a direct result of the intensive labour and high-quality materials invested, ensuring the rug lies flat and remains a lasting feature in your home.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the rug achieves a fine balance between delicate pattern definition and a thick, comfortable pile. This high knot count is a testament to the artisan's precision, resulting in a durable, high-quality floor covering that is built to endure generations of use.
