Koliai rugs originate from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, where they have been crafted for generations by the Koliai Kurdish tribes. These rugs are deeply rooted in the nomadic and semi-nomadic traditions of the region, where weaving is not only a functional necessity for floor coverings and bags but also a vital form of artistic expression.

The craft of these rugs is defined by the use of high-quality, hand-spun Wool, often dyed using traditional natural pigments that provide deep, lasting hues. The construction is known for its sturdiness, as these rugs were historically designed to withstand the rigours of tent life and nomadic movement, resulting in a pile that is exceptionally robust and durable.

Visually, Koliai rugs are celebrated for their bold, geometric motifs and large-scale medallions. They often feature a vibrant colour palette dominated by rich reds, blues, and earthy tones. The designs are typically less formal than those found in urban workshops, displaying a spontaneous and spirited approach to symmetry and pattern that makes each rug feel alive and expressive.

Collectors value Koliai rugs for their authenticity and the way they bridge the gap between functional craft and cultural artifact. Owning a piece from this tradition means connecting with a lineage of weavers whose skills have been passed down through centuries. It is an opportunity to bring a genuine, soulful object into your home that carries the weight of its regional heritage.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to each piece. The process involves individual knots being tied by hand onto a sturdy foundation, a technique that requires immense patience and precision to ensure the longevity and structural integrity of the final product.

With a total weight of 15.8 kg, this rug demonstrates the substantial amount of high-quality material invested in its construction. This density is a testament to the artisan's commitment to quality, ensuring that the rug remains stable and durable underfoot while maintaining its shape and texture over time.

The time and human effort poured into this creation are what set it apart from mass-produced alternatives. Each knot represents a deliberate choice and a connection to centuries-old techniques, resulting in a finished product that offers a level of durability and visual depth that only manual craftsmanship can achieve.
