KunduzHand KnottedRug

Brown / Black155 x 184 cm

Kunduz rugs originate from the northern regions of the Middle East, an area with a deep-rooted tradition of rug weaving. These pieces are deeply influenced by the nomadic and semi-nomadic cultures that have traversed the region for centuries, carrying with them a visual language that balances functional durability with complex artistic expression.

The craft of weaving in this region relies on traditional techniques passed down through generations. The use of high-quality Wool is central to this tradition, as it offers the natural lustre and strength needed to create rugs that age gracefully. These techniques ensure that every knot contributes to the overall integrity and longevity of the piece.

Visually, Kunduz rugs are known for their bold geometric motifs and rich, earthy colour palettes. Often featuring repeating patterns or stylized floral elements, these designs are deeply symbolic. The borders are typically well-defined, framing the central field and emphasising the balanced composition that defines the regional aesthetic.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage. Because each rug is created by hand without the use of mass-production methods, they carry the mark of the individual artisan. Owning one is a way to appreciate the dedication and skill required to preserve these ancient techniques in the modern world.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires significant patience and skill. Each individual knot is tied by hand, resulting in a robust structure that ensures the rug will remain a lasting part of your home for many years.

With a weight of 8.6 kg across its 184 x 155 cm surface, this rug demonstrates a high density of material. This substantial construction is the result of countless hours of dedicated work, reflecting the expertise of the artisans who crafted it and ensuring a high level of durability.
